Apr 2020 Portfolio

I think we all witnessed some sort of V shaped recovery. The bottom should be around 23 Mar 2020 with STI hovering around 2300 points. So the bottom had happened and if you are waiting for the bottom, guessed it happened and you had missed the boat to buy at the low. My portfolio also recovered about 7% from this relief rally. Please dont let this once in a decade correction go into waste. Even if you buy now you would still be getting some bargain from the covid19 market rout. Actually its easier said then done. I still recall that when the market was falling swiftly I was also getting more fearful and afraid to buy more. My last buy was only on the 2nd Apr 2020. After that when I see the market recover, I was still waiting for the big dip to add in more dividend stocks into my portfolio. But it didnt happened yet. So far, I had only used up 50% of my warchest and would be looking forward to add more if there are any big dips or retest of STI 2300 again.

When To Sell?

I created this page with an empty content in 2015 because back then I didn't know when I want to sell my stocks as I was holding a long term view of collecting dividends in my portfolio. Just last year, I was selling some profitable penny stocks as I decided to focus on blue chips, large cap stocks and REITs only. Well, this covid19 crisis finally made me realised what was my selling conditions but I wished it was during the bull market days. During Mar 2020, the selling from covid19 crisis was hard and fast as I watched in awe over my paper losing portfolio everyday. Then I wanted to make best use of this crisis to collect really cheap dividend stocks and so I decided to sell those stocks which were still in the green but was collecting low dividends. This move helped me raised some cash over this once in a lifetime opportunity as I channeled my fund into cheaper and higher dividend stocks. Well, that was my selling condition that time. But things were in much better shape if I sell these profitable stocks during the bull market instead.

Stay Safe, Invest Safe.

Mar 2020 Portfolio

I added some more counters only to be greeted by more selldown. Everyday I was bombarded with bad COVID19 news making me more nervous as the market became volatile as it hit limit down today and hit limit up the next day. Then the market made history in Mar 2020 for becoming the worst March ever. Through my short investing journey I had not seen this kind of market behaviour before. Looking at the paper loss also made me feel nauseous. But alas I am still saving up my bullets to take a shot at the market when it was a down day and hope that we can finally win this COVID19 war and market resume up to where it was. In the meantime, invest safe and stay safe during this tiring period.

What Are You Waiting For?

And so our market and along with all major global stock market took a deep dive of -4.25% in STI on this faithful day 09/03/2020 Monday due to COVID19 virus and oil price crash. This kind of black swan event doesnt come everyday. I doesnt feel the pain during SARS 2003 and Lehman Bro 2008 as at that time I wasnt heavily invested. But this time round, I can feel the pinch as I see the huge paper loss that happened in just one day. But yesterday also got me excited as I see many good buys which you doesnt see it in your everyday life. Bank stocks and blue chips started to appear in the 5% to 6% dividend yield. REITs were even better as they are in the 7% to 8% range.

Investors always say that they are waiting for that opportunity to buy cheap when the price is low or when there's a bear market. But when the opportunity comes they froze in fear and didnt take action to buy. Instead they do the opposite by selling their remaining stocks at a loss.

I wrote this article to remind myself to be sure to take up this once in a few lifetime opportunity to gather up as many good dividend stocks as I can using my limited funds and CPFIS. Since Feb 2020 I was already doing some nibbling as there were some mini crashes and I am left with some 50% of my funds. I am willing to go into CPFIS when I depleted my cash funds. But this crash looks like a long haul which will last for months just like during SARS which last about 6 months.

If you need some motivation maybe you can get it from the late Uncle Chua. At that time there wasnt any internet so Uncle Chua track his stocks price via newspaper. And so when is the time to buy? Uncle Chua said that when you can see those news headline that stock markets had crashed and thats the time to buy :)

If you are wondering whether should you buy now or buy later when the price gets lower. Maybe you can find your answer here in one of my older article.

Feb 2020 Portfolio

The market finally reacted to the CONVID-19 virus the 4 days huge market rout had brought down the index by 10%. I will started buying some of the stocks like blue chip and REITs for keeps. But I am not sure if I did it too aggressively or should wait for it to go lower. Anyway I didnt deploy all my funds yet and will nibble on the position if price decided to drop further. But at least I am vested if the market suddenly decided to make a sudden V shaped recovery.

Jan 2020 Portfolio

And so the Wuhan virus has started to work its effect on the stock market as we witnessed global stock markets reacting badly towards it. Of course this period will be a good time to pick up quality stocks for keeps. I had not made any purchases yet as it didnt hit any of my targetted price but I am sure that it will. Looking forward to beefing up my portfolio :)

2019 Year End Portfolio Review

Its the end of 2019, let's just do a little checkpoint to see how much am I closer to my target :) I started building my portfolio in Oct 2014. So this is my 5th year into it.

STI vs my portfolio:
My portfolio already beat STI for many months with the cumulative amount of dividends collected, but if you count only capital gain, I still beat the market.

Portfolio by stocks:
I am currently still in the process of diversifying my portfolio such that they should not exceed more than 5% of my total portfolio. I am always looking out for more high dividend stocks to buy so that I will be more diversified. The recent bear market has allowed me many opportunities to pickup blue chips and mid cap chips with high dividends I have 22 stocks with me now and will be targeting to reach more than 30 of them if opportunity arises.

Portfolio by sector:
In the sector diversification, my telecommunication sector is quite heavy with quite a bit of buying into Singtel when there was weakness in the counter. I am targeting probably not more than 20% for each sector of the other stocks.

Target:
TargetTargeted Portfolio sizeTargeted Monthly dividendsPeriodYearly CONDividends Reinvested
1st target$85,000$495 2015$30,000$5,900
2nd target$120,000$700 2016$30,000$8,400
3rd target$161,000$920 2017$30,000$11,000
4th target$213,000$1200 2018$30,000 $14,900
5th target$257,000$1500 2019$30,000$18,000
6th target$320,000$1800 2020$30,000$22,400
Its getting more difficult to find good buys in the bull market as I barely met my 2019 target with around $250k invested. I think 2020 will be a tough year to meet up this target.

Dividend:
Total dividend is $10,831+
Dividend per month is $902.56

Portfolio Analysis:
My worst performer is Asian Pay TV (-41%).

My best performer so far is DBS(100.02%).

Overall, my portfolio still ends positive in 2019. Some credits for the diversification of stocks. My risks are spread out throughout my list of stocks.

At end of 2019, I already invested close to $250,000 and receive monthly dividend of $902.56. We will confirm this when we do a full review of 2020 at mid year. I will continue to follow my strategy of allocating $5000 each month to buy high dividend stocks and march towards my 6th target which is ...

But judging by the bull market I think stocks are not getting any cheaper. I may have to sit on the sideline. Let's see how it goes :)
