Jan 2018 Portfolio

Nov has been quite a good month with the US stock market keep making All Time High. Our STI also tried to catch up the bull market but was not very good as compared to the US market. My portfolio was doing ok but the overall result was dragged down by Noble :(

2017 Year End Portfolio Review

Its the end of 2017, let's just do a little checkpoint to see how much am I closer to my target :) I started building my portfolio in Oct 2014. So close to 3 years of results.

STI vs my portfolio:
My portfolio already beat STI for many months with the cumulative amount of dividends collected, but if you count only capital gain, I still beat the market.

Portfolio by stocks:
I am currently still in the process of diversifying my portfolio such that they should not exceed more than 5% of my total portfolio. I am always looking out for more high dividend stocks to buy so that I will be more diversified. The recent bear market has allowed me many opportunities to pickup blue chips and mid cap chips with high dividends I have 22 stocks with me now and will be targeting to reach more than 30 of them.

Portfolio by sector:
In the sector diversification, my Capital Markets sector has come down due to my buying up of other sectors. I also bought in quite a number of shares in the banking and telco companies, it is now about 12% and 15.4%respectively. I am targeting probably not more than 20% for each sector of the other stocks.

Target:
TargetTargeted Portfolio sizeTargeted Monthly dividendsPeriodYearly CONDividends Reinvested
1st target$85,000$495 2015$30,000$5,900
2nd target$120,000$700 2016$30,000$8,400
3rd target$161,000$920 2017$30,000$11,000
4th target$213,000$1200 2018$30,000 $14,900
My 4th target is to invest up to $213,000 and receive monthly dividend up to $1200 per month.
I have invested $185k and have to catchup abit this year.

Dividend:
Total dividend is $9134+
Dividend per month is $761.44

Portfolio Analysis:
My worst performer is Noble Group (-94%) Grrr. I was trying to catch the bottom at 69c but it went down even further. Now, it is getting worst haha

My best performer so far is DBS(80.54%). This one I managed to get it at a low price of $14.

Overall, my portfolio still ends positive in 2017. Some credits for the diversification of stocks. My risks are spread out throughout my list of stocks. Cant imagine if I have a big share in Noble then my portfolio will look really bad.

At end of 2017, I already invested close to $185,000 and receive monthly dividend of $761.44. We will confirm this when we do a full review of 2018 at mid year. I will continue to follow my strategy of allocating $5000 each month to buy high dividend stocks and march towards my 4th target which is ...

But judging by the bull market I think stocks are not getting any cheaper. I may have to sit on the sideline. Let's see how it goes :)

2017 Trading Review

Flashback to 2016, it was only Oct 2016 that I found some holding ground on my trading methodology. Before that, my P/L chart looks like the USS 'The Mummy' roller coaster ride. I was very lucky that using the same method I am able to generate a very positive full year result for 2017. If you checkout out my P/L chart above, it was shooting up like a rocket with some dent along the way when I chalked up some losses as Mr Market gave me his grime reminder that I should not be cocky. Well, this should not discourage me as I should still stick to my trading plan and execute my orders. I am proud to say that I have reached a major milestone of $100,000 trading account in Dec 2017. As my trading account continue to grow, I will be increasing my position sizing along the way.

The full year result for 2017 is a good return of 39.94% :)

Moving forward I am sure I can get a better result in 2018. Stay in touch!

Dec 2017 Trading

Sad to say that Dec 2017 was not the most wonderful time of the year. There wasnt any Santa Rally in 2017 instead Santa kinda woke up late and brought joy to all on New Year's Day on 02/01/2018. Well for a moment I thought that Dec was going to be my best trading month of the year 2017. But it didnt. Its still ok as I still got a sizable profit. Looking forward to 2018 I think its still going to be a good month too. We shall see.
